Living in Surrey, BC
There's a city located just where Greater Vancouver, the United States of America, and the Pacific Rim meet. Featuring the second largest population in British Columbia, the City of Surrey's population isn't just large, it's also one of Canada's most diverse, with visible minorities representing a majority of its population. This diversity is even reflected in the city's many athletic offerings: including many cricket pitches, soon to host Canada's first purpose-built Kabaddi stadium, and of course home to the BCHL's Surrey Eagles hockey team.
With two major universities among other prominent post-secondary institutions and a burgeoning tech sector with growth accelerated by massive public and private investment alike, Surrey is one of Canada's best places to find the opportunities which will define our century, as the city's Innovation Boulevard project demonstrates.
Boasting an on-trend economy which reflects the city's forward-thinking policy approach, leading sectors include technology (with a specific focus on health tech innovation), clean energy, advanced manufacturing, agriculture and health care. Despite quickly growing to become one of Canada's largest metropolitan areas (estimated to match Vancouver's 766,000 by 2040), Surrey retains the fertile agricultural soil, the beautiful beaches, scenic mountain vistas, and many beautiful green spaces which have drawn so many to the city for so long. And with the city situated just a cheap and short Skytrain ride from Downtown Vancouver, you'll enjoy all of Vancouver's advantages without paying Vancouver's rent prices.
