About Mainstreet

Mainstreet invests in older mid-market multi-family rental properties and repositioning them to provide comfortable and well-managed apartment rentals. Based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mainstreet currently owns and manages properties exclusively throughout Western Canada, including larger portfolios in the Calgary area, Edmonton area, Lower Mainland BC, Regina, and Saskatoon, with additional buildings in Kamloops, Lethbridge, Vancouver Island, Vernon and Winnipeg.

A counter-cyclical investment strategy and commitment to controlled growth is the foundation of Mainstreet. Purchasing distressed properties and renovating them, Mainstreet creates value in assets many other companies overlook and rents the suites to tenants at affordable rates.

About Mainstreet

Mainstreet Equity

Who We Are

Mainstreet Equity is a Canadian real estate company focused on acquiring and managing mid-market rental apartment buildings primarily in Western Canada. Founded in 1997 and publicly traded on the TSX since 2000, Mainstreet creates value by purchasing under-performing properties, renovating them to a branded standard, improving operating efficiencies, and repositioning them in the market for greater returns.

Our History

Mainstreet Equity started in Calgary in 1997 by founder and CEO Bob Dhillon. From the beginning, Mainstreet has grown its portfolio by focusing on a "boutique" niche within the real estate industry. As an organization, it primarily purchases mid-market multi-family apartment buildings that tend to be under 100 units. Acquiring low-rise apartments in clustered areas improves operational efficiencies and minimizes costs. This business strategy has remained consistent over the years; adding value to neglected properties by providing suite renovations and property improvements. Mainstreet suites are geared toward everyday Canadians, improving the quality and standard of mid-market apartments.
