The kitchen is the heart and hearth of the home – but it gets dirty fast. With the following five tips, you can easily keep your kitchen clean, green and fresh for a fraction of the cost of those yucky chemicals.

  • Make your sink clean again

Lemon + baking soda is magical when cleaning your sink. If you have leftover half lemons from cooking or juicing, just sprinkle some baking soda in the sink and use the lemon as a scrubber. It will clean the sink and do away with nose cringing odours.

  • Fridge cleanup

To get rid of fridge odour, you can deodorize your fridge with baking soda. Place an open container of baking soda and let it absorb the smells for at least 24 hours. Less commonly known is that fact that you can also use ground coffee to effectively absorb smells.

  • Microwave cleaning shortcuts

Place some wet paper towels inside and run it for three to five minutes. The steam from the towels will soften the grime. Then you can use the same paper tower to wipe the microwave's interior.

To deodorize, mix one cup of water with some lemon juice and heat it for three to five minutes. Let it stand in the microwave for five to ten minutes and it will, like magic, take the smell away.

  • Smelly oven, no problem

A simple solution is to bake lemon or orange peels in the oven. Alternatively, you can fill a baking dish with water and a few drops of vanilla extract or lemon juice and place the dish in the oven on low heat for an hour. Both methods are very effective in refreshing a smelly oven.

  • Clean a coffee mug

Scrub them with equal parts vinegar and salt and let sit for fifteen minutes.

Finally, it's time to take care of your hands. To get rid of stubborn smells like garlic or fish, just rub some coffee beans in your hands, once the odor is gone, wash with soap and water.
